Foxwoods is the largest casino in the world, with over 11,000 employees, and while its poker room is not the largest card room in the country, it's still huge -- with 70 tables in the main room and 11 used mainly for poker tournaments in an adjacent area, and 5 more satellite tables. The room is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and you can find seven-card stud poker, Omaha poker, and of course, Texas Hold'em poker games, both limit and no-limit, to sit down and play at anytime.Foxwoods Casino: Poker Room Details:
The majority of tables at Foxwoods spread Texas Hold'em, but there are also still many seven-card stud tables. The lowest limits have the most tables -- with more $2-4 limit Texas Hold'em, $1-2 No-limit Hold'em and $1-5 seven-card stud tables than I could count. Only four Omaha tables were scattered through the room. There were also a half dozen $4-8 Hold'em games, and a few tables each of limits up to $20-$40. On weekends, you can find limits as high as $150-$300.Foxwoods Casino: Getting Started at the Poker Room:
Once you've located Foxwoods' Poker Room within the giant casino (it's located in the Rainmaker Casino, it's easy to get started. Just look for the "poker" sign and tell the host what poker game you'd like to play. While there is usually a wait on nights and weekends, the electronic queue system is easy to sign up on and see from anywhere in the room.

For a more detailed explanation on how to get started, read Step-by-step tour of Foxwoods' Poker Room.Foxwoods Casino & The World Poker Tour:
Foxwoods is perhaps best known in the poker world for being the first casino to sign up to be a location for the World Poker Tour. Foxwoods also ingeniously began a "Acts" program of satellite tournaments where players can win their way up to winning a seat to the WPT Championship event. In 2004, over 1/3 of the finalists at the big game at Foxwoods won through Act Tournaments. The best part is Act I tournaments cost only $60 and start as soon as ten people want to play.Foxwoods Casino: Tournament Schedule:
In addition to the rolling Act Tournaments and the World Poker Tour events, Foxwoods also holds daily poker tournaments:
  • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday at 8am: $45 buy-in No-limit Texas Hold'em
  • Wednesdays at 8am: $80 buy-in No-limit Texas Hold'em
  • Mondays at 6pm: $60 buy-in Limit Texas Hold'em
  • Tuesdays at 6pm: $120 buy-in No-limit Texas Hold'em
Foxwoods Casino Poker Room: Overall Impressions:
I was highly impressed with the smooth way the room was run, the friendly staff, and most of the dealers, who were very competent, though when I played Omaha hi/lo, many of them had to be reminded of the rules.

It took less than 30 minutes to gather enough people for the Act 1 Tournament I entered (and yes, lost) and I found that if I put my name down for several games, I never had to wait more than 30 minutes to sit down. Overall, a highly recommended place to play poker. Foxwoods Casino :
