What Would You Do?So, I just got back from the Ladies no-limitHold'em event at the Borgata Poker Open, and by the fact that I just said I just got back you can gather I did not make the final table. There were 390 women entered and I busted at 46, 10 to the money. Not quite on the bubble, but close enough to warrant a big 'Booooo!' But I played as well as one can when you only get dealt a pocket pair 10 times in 10 hours. Seriously, what the are the odds? But speaking of 10s, only one hand of the whole tournament is bugging me, so here's where I open up to you, dear reader, with a what if proposition! The blinds are 75/150, and in middle position you find pocket 10s. You have 6500 in chips. The woman under the gun raises to 600 and you call instead of re-raise, since you have read her to be a tight player and most likely has one of the top starting hands in Hold'em. The small and big blind also call. Everyone else folds. There is now 2400 in the pot. The flop is K-Q-10, with two diamonds. You have flopped a set! Hooray, you think, until the small blind bets 1000 and the big blind and the original raiser also smooth call. Based on what you know, and the betting, you think you are up against at least one flush draw and perhaps big slick (A-K). It is conceivable that someone has A-J and already has the straight, but that seems unlikely. Most likely someone is just on the straight draw. There is now 5400 in the pot. What do You Do? |
